Great news from fietskoeriersland. My friend from ’s Hertogenbosch, Hanno Maas from Shortcut, has become the proud father of a daughter. Stella is her name and I know for a fact he’ll be a great dad, gefeliciteerd man. But make sure she stays away from streetcars named Desire okeeeeeej?

Like, yes way, it’s a big deal. To work on a cargobicycle after 13 years of messengering on both fixed and shifter bikes. The worst you could get was to have a bobyak behind you on the busy days, that’s it. But at my new work I have the obligation to do whatever they like at times they want. Might as well make the best of what they offer. Let’s see if i can ride this Bullitt with no hands.
Hey from Scott Free, about Cycle Messenger World Championships Guatemala, the permits and all city approval has been achieved a year ahead of time, the dirt and wood figure eight velodrome is under construction and the makings of one of the most unigue of all CMWC’s is ready for all messengers young and old, we would hope to bring out all the old school messengers from the glory days of the 1990’s and some of the new boodies as well. Please get there. Panajachel, Guatemala, september 3rd – 12th, 2010.

It’s a day for renewed chances. Let’s see, what’s there to do this week? My woman and son are off to her mom. We’ve got bikepolo on wednesday, we have de hel van het noorden alleycat on friday and there’s the ODCMC on saturday. Oh yeah, let’s not forget that we’re still on monday, to celebrate Meneer Eddie’s effort from last saturday when he became Utrechts best foreigner in the uphill. He placed 4th overall which gives him a bijna niet te missen kans to become kattebakkampioen 2008/2009.

I had to work today, again! Yeah, life ain’t fair, some say. I know, but on the other hand, life’s what you make it. I would very much like to have some time off to spend it with my son. To go cycling, to climb hills, to race down de zypendaalseweg. To do stuff, to imagine we’re both kids having fun cause school’s out. Ahhhhhh, if only there could be a time like this.
Ich sag das alles noch ein Mahl: Du bist alles! Peter Maffay (heute 60 Jahre) is namely der Grosste of alltimes. In Germany that is ofcourse because outside die Heimat, there are only a handful of Dutchies who know about this great singer. Being a fahrradkurier ist nicht always only about riding around your hometown. Sometimes you go abroad to visit a championship or alleycat. Then you need to know what’s going on with die Einheimischen.

Malle Tjeerd wrote: Totally agree with this! Why don’t we hear anything from mister El Presidente? Well, we did, he responded in a seemingly powerless reaction: I called an emergency meeting of the IFBMA council recently to discuss this. I will say that attendance was not good. So I am being left to deal with a situation that I personally find extremely perplexing, and which has moreover brought out the worst in the community. The personal attacks that some people have had to endure are simply not in keeping with the spirit of the community.
Spirit in the community?! Excuse me? Putting people’s lives at stake at an unclosed course championship. No worries folks, with a little luck, an accident will make the community’s spirit much closer and tighter.

In mess world. The coming NACCChampionships will be a race held throughout the city. On a non-closed course. With realtime traffic. With messengers from Boston riding around in an event with chance of becoming de kampioen. None of the IFBMA representatives takes a stand in this discussion, really. Oldskool fietskoeriers say that a real Championship is to be held on a closed course with insurances, same chances for all and with utmost security. Where will this madness end? Is the solution to name this event: the Non IFBMA Approved North American Cycle Courier Alleycat and Polocostyle Tournament (or NIANACCAPT for short). Or should we just get rid of all this nonsense and call it a jamboree.

Tomkov was born on July 24, 1972!! The Russian rider stood on the podium in the Grand Tour events four times including one victory. Tomkov won the 1996 Giro d’Italia in front of Enrico Zaina of Italy and Abraham Olano of Spain. Tomkov was 2nd in the 1997 Giro d’Italia behind Ivan Gotti of Italy. Tomkov was also 2nd in the 1998 Giro d’Italia behind Marco Pantani of Italy. In addition, Tomkov was 3rd in 2000 Vuelta a Espana behind Roberto Heras of Spain and Angel Casero of Spain.

So what is the deal in Basel this year. They couldn’t make their minds up on which language to speak? They couldn’t decide to play urban bicycle polo by whose rules? Was it too difficult to call (the French guy, with the German surname, who’s working in Zwitserland) him “the champ”? But I bet this TriCMC is going to be a hell of a blast of a wicked couple of days with friendly people. Too bad no Dutchies have registered yet.
