Guustaaf offered his services for checkpoint and the plan is to make a race in which only the strong will survive. Checkpoints will only be open for a short amount of time. Limited amount of racers will go through to the next round. Een afvalrace waarbij u de Arnhemse heuvels zult beklimmen teneinde uw tegenstanders te verslaan op de gebieden van uithoudingsvermogen, fietskoerierskunde en een gezonde niet aflatende vorm van onuitputtelijk doorzetting. For potential foreigners and hopefully to be welcomed fakengers, who wanna come and join in on this monstruous alleycat. From start to finish it’ll go uphill, collecting a package, going downhill, grabbing a manifest, going uphill, getting a proof of delivery, going downhill, taking an order, going uphill, etcetera etcetera. Put that 29th of may in your agendas cause I’m expecting you to bring coins for the good cause. Money will be collected for Tour for Life’s Artsen zonder Grenzen.

The crazy folks of Cycloon came up with next idiot idea. Let’s do a check-up on the route of the 24-uurs race. And while at it, let’s build up some teamspirit for the Tour for Life. Which in the end only meant I was on “het vinketouw”, trying to follow the big guns riding over 50 km/uur on the Dutch roads while having continiously wind and rain hammering my pretty face. Arnhem will be Greenhem for a year because we’re living, cycling and messengering in the winner of the Entente Florale 2009 competition. I hereby proudly present my hometown as the only GOLD medalist. I always knew that Arnhem was the best city to be a fietskoerier in and now it’s also be prooven to be the most beautiful and groenste stad van Europa.

My employer asked me to join in the Cycloon Fietskoeriers team for Tour for Life. The bicyclemessengers from Zwolle, Groningen and Arnhem are fundraising for Het Goede Doel! Or, as the organisation put it: Get on your bike for a week and help Médicins Sans Frontières-Holland (MSF-Holland). Ofcourse I wanna help out collecting money and doing the best I can to support this nice and needed initiative. By throwing in the yearly returning Arnhem Uphill Alleycat Classic on the 29th of may. Come over to hilly city and show your kattebakmoney where my mouth is.

One of the more influential riders of the past decade on my personal behalf. He won Paris-Roubaix in 1995 and 1998 and was the succesful coach of 4 Italian Worldchampionship titles. But I will remember his muscular attacks the most. Franco Ballerini died yesterday in a ralleycar accident. Addio campione …. vola leggero verso l’ultimo traguardo.

We had to wait for a whole year. Too long, way too long in my smartass opinion. I was getting thirsty already. Malle Tjeerd and I haven’t been drinking since cause we wanted to be prepared. We could never drink as much as them so this year we’re going for Gold in the kattebakalleycat. The bierweek in Zwolle, it’s simply just something special. Make sure you’re there to witness it all till your vision gets blurred.

The 30th of january it’s time for the first Fragile Cargo Alleycat in Arnhem. During the race you will have to make sure that you don’t break you cargo because that will result in time peanlty’s. The fragile payload will be the size of about a beer can but it’s very, very fragile so take precautions! The race opens at 20.00 and the start will be at 21.00. The race will end at Club Orewoet in Arnhem and there the fun continues in the for of the ”grote Vinnie, Donnie en Sjakie show“. At 0.00 the results will be made public and prices will be there for the boys and girls who made their way through Arnhem the fastest without breaking their payload. This spectacle will set you back 5 euro but for that you will get acces to the party as well and everyone gets his own personal trophy! For questions mail naar Mr Monkeyboy himself.

That Hanno-guy from Brabant set out a magnificent alleycat. No less than 17 riders entered the snowy thus cold competition but I’ll ask the DMA to give one point per person for volunteering. Cause the weather was bad as a mofo. Yet the organisation of food, drinks, warmth and gezelligheid was at its best. If this is going to be the standard for the future… I sign up!

Pont naar de NDSM-werf

Vanaf de aanmeersteiger achter het Centraal Station Amsterdam, vertrekt elk half uur (en tijdens spitsuren, ieder kwartier) een pont naar de Van Riemsdijkweg in Noord. Vandaar is het 4 minuten lopen naar de NDSM-werf/Skatepark Amsterdam. De pont, die alleen toegankelijk is voor (brom)fietsers en voetgangers, is gratis. Vertrektijd vanaf CS is kwart voor en kwart over het uur. Vertrektijd vanaf NDSM terrein is half na het uur en heel uur.

Openbaar vervoer

Bus 35 vanaf CS, uitstappen Atatürk
Bus 94 vanaf CS, uitstappen Klaprozenweg
Bus 38 vanaf de pont (noordzijde recht tegenover CS), uitstappen Klaprozenweg

Auto route Coentunnel

Ring A10, Coentunnel, daarna meteen afslag S118 richting Tuindorp Oostzaan (volg Noord 1), Cornelis Douwesweg, die overgaat in de Klaprozenweg. Na de afslag Noord 1 de eerste afslag rechts (Van Riemsdijkweg), kruising over en dan linksaf (tt Neveritaweg)

Auto route IJ-tunnel

Door de IJ-tunnel, eerste afrit, linksaf (Van Hasseltweg), volg Noord 1, rechtsaf (Kamperfoelieweg), bij tweede stoplicht linksaf (Klaprozenweg), enz. Na de brug over het Zijkanaal linksaf (Van Riemsdijkweg), kruising over en dan linksaf (tt Neveritaweg)
